Dr. Sojoodi was raised in Shiraz where she attended Shiraz University and got her BS in Biology. She continued her education in Cell and Developmental Biology at Royan Institute, Tehran, Iran, and specialized in embryonic stem cell biology and their differentiation toward insulin-producing cells during her master years under supervision of Prof. Dr. Hossein Baharvand. In 2011, she moved to Belgium and started her Ph.D. at the Diabetes Research Center, Vrije University of Brussels, under supervision of Prof. Dr. Harry Heimberg and Dr. Paola Bonfanti. Her Ph.D. work was focused on beta cell biology and regeneration of pancreas to treat both types of Diabetes. On October 2016, Dr. Sojoodi was granted Ph.D. degree with distinction in Biomedical Science. Later as a Postdoctoral Fellow, she joined Dr. Bryan Fuchs lab at the Division of Surgical Oncology, Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center and Harvard Medical School. Currently, her research is focused on diagnosis, treatment and mechanism of obesity, non-alcoholic liver diseases (NAFLD) and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). In this webinar, Dr. Sojoodi will present a short summary of recent efforts which allow beta cell regeneration where the most promising approaches are increasing beta cell self-replication or neogenesis from ductal progenitors.
